The account of the Siege of Gloucester by John Dorney was published within six months of the siege. Dorney was the Town Clerk of the city throughout the period of the Civil Wars and Interregnum, being displaced at the Restoration, but subsequently reinstated.

Dorney would have been present at all meetings of the Council, and presumably of the governing council (military as well as civil), so his inside knowledge is probably unmatched. His account remains the most detailed, and served as a model for later publications, including both Corbet and Rushworth.

In order to ease download times it is divided into separate elements.
